Fabric in a house fails from small repeated mistakes: a beater bar head run over woollen spun upholstery, a cloth at 60 degrees Celsius pressed into a wine spill on linen, a wool rug left in one orientation for eight years under a south window. Starsteam publishes tested notes on four fabrics: wool upholstery, pale linen, wool rugs and curtain cloth.
Every Starsteam article states the conditions that make a method work: water temperature in degrees Celsius, detergent pH, dwell time in minutes, fabric weight in grams per square metre, Martindale rub counts under BS EN ISO 12947, and light fastness on the 1 to 8 blue wool scale of BS EN ISO 105-B02.
